12 year old visit’s jail for making a joke.

Sunday, February 12th, 2006

Do you know that you can go to jail in the US for making a nasty joke in public or in school? Now to me that really does sound ridiculous especially when the joke is coming from a 12 year old kid.

A 12-year-old Aurora boy who said he brought powdered sugar to school for a science project this week has been charged with a felony for possessing a look-alike drug, Aurora police have confirmed

The arrest was triggered by two other boys who asked if the bag contained cocaine after he showed it to them in the bathroom. He joked that it was cocaine, before telling them, “just kidding,” but well it landed him in jail after the custodian of the school reported to the police.

Comments:
I really do not understand why making a joke can land you in jail. US boast so much for having a very indulgent system, blessed with freedom and opportunity, but yet they are the worst at handling a simple joke coming from a 12 year old. How pathetic.

Do Nigerians embrace corruption?

bayelsabayelsa governor

The governor of an oil-rich Nigerian state has fled the UK, where he was charged with laundering £1.8m ($3.2m) found in cash and bank accounts.

Source : BBC

To some Nigerians back at home, especially from BAYELSA, he is their hero for being corrupt :(. How pathetic !!

Bayelsa’s Information Commissioner Oronto Douglas told the AFP news agency: “We woke up this morning and he was here… He said that God brought him here.”

Mr Douglas said large crowds had lined the streets of the state capital, Yenagoa, to welcome the governor back.

A government official after being charged of money laundering, skipping bail and getting a warm welcome back home is not what I would call good news.

What are the authourities of Nigeria doing about this?

Is this one of the ways of telling the world out there, that hey we are corrupt and we really do not give a dem? Infact we embrace it?

This is crazy

Anti-corruption drive.
Nigeria’s anti-corruption body has been investigating the governor for more than three years.

I just hope that they would just stop doing the “investigating” and get things done for once.

This is indeed a very serious issue. But lets see what Uncle Sege would do about it. We might be in for a suprise.

Atiku’s house in the US. A beauty indeed.

With the current controversy triggered by the recent search of the house of the VP of Nigeria by the FBI, even though, he was supposed to be diplomatic immune to a search warrant, has led to a lot of questions on How Could the VP himself afford such a mansion in the US in 1988 for $175000? It is said to be currently worth more than 2 million dollars. Even though he was just an immigration officer back then.

This has led to a lot of investigations back in Nigeria, in regards to the property in question and a lot of debates, are currently going on all over Nigerian websites, forums and even blogs across the net, on the likelihood of corruption which might lead to a possible impeachment .

The questions that still remains unanswered are:-

  • Was Attiku a corrupt Immigration Officer?

  • Would he be impeached?
  • From my own personal opinion, I dont think the impeachment process would come into existence, this is because the process doesnt go that easy. Besides the possibility of the Northern part of Nigeria, to raise an alarm, when they see a Yoruba man, on the way to removing their own man. But still time would tell.

    Konfabulator Now Free!!

    Tuesday, July 26th, 2005

Thanks to yahoo, that bought over Konfabulator, in what i would call a strategic aquisition, to boost their popularity. But does yahoo really need to make it free? I would say yes, people love free stuff. And once you are attached to it too, they would love you automatically. What happens to stylexp etc. That means my desktop is gonna look, better. I would post the new look, after i am through with it.

Yahoo has acquired software “widget” engine Konfabulator in a move to spur third-party developers to devise new applications for the Internet giant’s services.

Konfabulator is a JavaScript runtime engine that lets people run very small applications, or widgets, on either Windows or Macintosh systems. Konfabulator is owned by parent company Pixoria, a Palo Alto, Calif.-based start-up founded in 2003.

Yahoo plans to run the widgets via XML feeds. The applications can perform any of a range of functions, from informing people of their Wi-Fi signal strength to dishing up the local weather to providing a battery monitor, according to a notice posted on Konfabulator’s Web site.

“When we first thought of Konfabulator, one of the key pieces was accessing Internet content. Well guess what Yahoo has boatloads of?” Konfabulator said on its site. “And what’s really great is that they’re starting to open it up to everyone in a format that’s useable outside the traditional browser, as XML feeds.”

According to Konfabulator, the acquisition also marks the formal launch of Yahoo’s Developer Network.

“Since we’re kick-starting Yahoo’s Developer Network, this means our current Konfabulator community will become the founding members of Yahoo’s Developer community,” according to a posting on Konfabulator’s site.

A Yahoo representative said that the company had a developer network prior to its Pixoria acquisition, but that with this deal, Yahoo plans to formalize its relationship with developers.

Konfabulator, which had charged rates from $19.95 for a single user license to $2,500 for a worldwide site license, said that its service will now be free and that it will refund purchases of its version 2.0 or later.

Stay free and blessed yahoo. And I love widgets. Yes I do.

But the question still is, why games? Has pornography find another way to spread itself? I think government regulators should do something about this, especially in regards to the under aged playing such games.

Send 419 Mail & Go To Jail

    Tuesday, July 19th, 2005

A Nigerian court has sentenced a woman to two and half years in jail after she pleaded guilty to fraud charges in the country’s biggest e-mail scam case.

Amaka Anajemba, one of three suspects in a $242 million fraud involving a Brazilian bank, must return $48.5 million to the bank, hand over $5 million to the government and pay a fine of $15,000 (2 million naira), the country’s antifraud agency said Saturday.

Scams have become so successful in Nigeria that antisleaze campaigners say swindling is one of the country’s main foreign exchange earners after oil, natural gas and cocoa.

Anajemba’s sentencing by a Lagos High Court on Friday is the first major conviction since the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was established in 2003 to crack down on Nigeria’s thriving networks of e-mail fraudsters. [ For Futher Reading]

Well as i said, in my previous post in relation to internet fraud, Nigerians are generally not that sleek as they are said to be. They are just good in the “mail department”, sending u spams and the unfortunate greedy, gullible ones falling from it. The question i always ask is “WHY YOU?“. Why not me? Why not her or him? Well it seems the Nigerian government is taking it very seriously. But the question still remains, Is Fraud from Nigeria almost history?

  • G8 debt deal under threat at IMF

    Saturday, July 16th, 2005

    debts

Even before the ink has dried on proposals to relieve poor countries’ debts to international lenders, the deal agreed by the G8 at Gleneagles is under threat. [For Futher Reading…......]

What am i reading? Does this mean that there would be the likelihood of ammendment of the agreement?

    This i say because

In a document that has been leaked to the activist group Jubilee Debt Campaign, Belgian IMF representative Willy Kierkens is quoted as telling the IMF executive board that “rather than giving full, irrevocable and unconditional debt relief… countries would receive grants”.

The IMF would then be able to withdraw the grants if countries failed to meet IMF conditions such as implementing the Poverty Growth Reduction Strategy which is a pre-requisite for receiving debt relief.

    Well just like me,

The proposals have also alarmed African officials at the IMF, if the leaks are accurate.

The three African directors representing sub-Saharan Africa say any change to the G8 debt deal “would delay benefits” and that it “does not seem appropriate that debt cancellation would reintroduce conditionality”.

If the do really want to help, the should just do it. Otherwise what is all this nonesense?

Africans are starving and the Brits are throwing food away.

    Tuesday, April 12th, 2005
Food BinsThere are around 2.6 million people starving in Africa, and yet the average Brit is throwing away food (*statistic from The World Food Programme (WFP) ) .

Around one third of food grown for human consumption in the UK ends up in the rubbish bin, new figures reveal.

So why are people starving in Africa, and people throwing away food into bins in the Uk? well they said their reason was the following and I quote that

“We are very greedy when we go and shop. Our eyes are bigger than stomachs in homes and in restaurants. ” and also that the idea that the food is cheap makes us throw it away. what a waste !!.

This world is really very complex. Some have too much and they throw it away, whilst others dont even have the means to even have just a basic simple meal a day. Its really pathetic.
