The kazza’s Successor

Filed under: Tech — kayode muyibi @ 12:52 am

A lot of people are looking for alternatives to kazaa, infact something better, and I would just say use torrent. The torrent p2p technology infact is the successor of kazaa. It is for the techies, one of my friend’s lamented. But that is not true, it is quite easy once you get used to it. So how do you download something using the torrent technology.

Its very easy. The process involves 4 main steps which is :-

1. Downloading and installing the software.
2. Using a torrent search engine to search for a torrent file of your needs.
3. Downloading the torrent file which takes an average of 1 minute, depending on your connection.
4. Clicking on the downloaded torrent file to run on the main software.

It is very easy as I said, and here is the elaborated process plus url sources.

1. Downloading and installing the software.

This entails downloading the torrent software itself which helps in the downloading. We have the bitcomet, azeureus, bittorent (the official client) and more.

What do I recommend?

Bitcomet, so far I have tested 8 clients, and I can say, Bitcomet comes on top. It works even inside a network with firewall. You could download it here

One thing you should note is that some clients such as BitTorrent, give the best download performance to the people who upload the most, a property known as “leech resistance”, since it discourages “leechers” from trying to download the file without uploading it to anyone. (Although, confusingly, when used in opposition to “seeds” or “seeders” as in “S/L ratio” (meaning “seed/leech ratio”), “leecher” only means someone who hasn’t downloaded the full file yet.)

2. Using a torrent search engine to search for a torrent file of your needs.

Here is a list of reliable torrent search engines.

I use Isohunt most of the time, and it comes quite handy.

3. Downloading the torrent file which takes an average of 1 minute, depending on your connection.

After the search you are giving a result of the search, and normally for a specific same file you might have quite a number of similiar results although different sources. And they are tagged with some statistics such as seeders (S) and Leechers (L).

Seeders are uploaders who are uploading and have the complete file youwant to download.

Leehers are uploaders who are also downloading. Once you begin to download you become a leecher too. Once you finish downloading you become a seeder.

So to choose your download source using a scale of highest number of Seeders followed by Highest number of Leechers. I think that is quiet easy to understand.

So all you do is download the torrent file which normally has an extension of “.torrent”.
Once you finish downloading it you can now goto step 4.

4. Clicking on the downloaded torrent file to run on the main software.

All you need to do is open the software and open the torrent file with the software. The download would automatically begin based on the availability of the file and torrent downloads are quiet fast because both the leechers and the seeders are uploading the file into the network for downloading.

  2. It’s true what ur friend said. It’s somehow hard to use BitTorrent jare. I (even myself) cldnt find my way to use it behind a firewall. It’s not user friendly
