Religion is a good thing, providing morals, values and guidelines. Obviously though it depends how it is followed.

Kazey,

I think you don't really understand what the person you quoted is saying. This issue bothers on faith which may be difficult to explain here. But then, as you have rightly pointed out, Nigerians use religion to cover-up a lot. And that is why our leaders are still enslaving us. They give us religion instead of quality service.

Hello Kayode, I love it that you're trying to tackle issues that really touch those of us at home. Really, I think what happens is that when people feel powerless to change their circumstances in life, they turn to religion. Not because they want to live right, but because they are looking for a magic pill to solve their problems. It is just a means to an end.

Unfortunately, religion has a strong side-effect. Because each religion claims to be the absolute truth, then it means that all other religions must be false. Each religion has little respect for the others, which makes it easy for tricksters and politicians to use religious sentiments to create strife and enrich themselves indirectly. The solution is to try to emphasize those passages in the various religious texts that promote peace.

However, I can't explain our tribalism at all, but I know it runs really deep too. I hope it dies with the current generation of leaders. :(
