Nigeria’s Key to Development

Filed under: General Stuffs — kayode muyibi @ 12:12 am

Questions can sometimes be answered with questions, so if I ask myself a question I guess I can be given the chance to answer it with a question. So I ask myself. As a Nigerian, what do I think is the key to the development of the country Nigeria? My answer was, Was I referring to the development of the developed world, like the USA? Where a lot of my fellow country mates are ready to migrate to, at the slightest given opportunity?

Yes I answered myself, but then again, what is the key? I think I should go off topic for a while. A lot of us (*Nigerians) have missed our bearings in relations to what we do really need to become a developed world. We have so much believe in just applying technologies and following patterns and trends from the developed country. We believe so much in the idea of getting technology into the system, and the tendency of leap frogging, but then again, are we really developing? I would say No, in a developed country, everything is quiet balance, in terms of technology vs infrastructure.

What we really need in Nigeria, is infrastructure. We dont need technologies, we dont need investors, they need us. Now you might be thinking what is this guy talking about? Dont be alarmed, by what i just said. Nigeria is not ready for investors. When I look back at all the developing world, like China, where investors are rushing at any slightest opportunity, I do ask myself, Why China? China does not need investors? They have closed their doors for a long time. Now that their doors are slightly open, Investors are streaming in. Why? From what I can tell China has the basic infrastructure plus the resources in terms of human power to satisfy the investor’s dreams.

Now that is really what we need. We have been deceived and misdirected by the GSM and BROADBAND INTERNET implementation in the country, and i think its time we get our bearings right. What we need is basic infrastructure in terms of stable electricity, water supply and good roads. That’s the only three things we need in Nigeria. And that’s what we should ask the government for!

What we should understand as Nigerians is that, when all this three basic amenities are there, Investors would be flocking in, we don’t have to beg them, and besides the investors, we would have the chance to implement all our great ideas that have died due to the lack of these amenities.

From my personal opinion, our leaders have not achieved anything worth writing about yet. Because we don’t have the basic infrastructure and i doubt that they are even thinking in that relation. Yet we are made to believe and think that, we are on the road to development. How can that be? From what i know, Opening a gate without a key, does not lead to legal entry, that is even applicable in the case, of which the gate opens without the key. And how long would we keep on opening the same gate without the correct key?

The key to Nigeria’s development lies around the three basic amenities, Water, Electricity and Good Road, and until we have it, we would always be looking for the right gate, because the gate would never open.
