Google Video

Source: ZDNET
Google on Monday launched its new Web-based video search service, which allows people to use keywords to search the company’s indexed database of video from Unicef, Greenpeace, CNET Networks and others that have uploaded content since April.

Since the launching of Google’s main product , its “Google Search“, I taught it was a great move to a better way of searching, and that was it, just the search engine, but from what i can tell today, Google is on its way to building an internet dominated empire.

The reason is mainly because its virtually getting into everything, from its desktop apps such as desktop search, to picasa (for image editing etc), to its online news engine Google News, to froggle (price comparison) (i wonder what Price Grabber taught about that ), the list goes on and on, to the future proposed payment system the Google Purse to compete with paypal to now trying to compete again with yahoo’s video search @ http://video.search.yahoo.com/ with its Google Video, which not only ends with the ability to search for videos or submit, but came packed with a windows based desktop application again, named Google Video Viewer. Incredible !!

Well what would be Googles next move? A replica of Amazon? i wonder :)

What are your IT Priorities?

Choice: #4 (E-Business)

IT Priorities Research Report: The latest survey of ZDNet UK readers shows networking, security and mobility as increasingly important now and in the future

Source: ZDNET

But E-Business is not in the top IT priority of the present nor even the future ;). Exactly that is the point. Personally i am not following trends of what people desire to do, or evolving possibilities of technology. What i look for is uniqueness, in whatever i intend to venture in. But the question still is, do you think the statistics would apply in the future?

well i read somewhere that …

The Internet is rapidly transforming business, markets and society. Every industry from financial services to health care, to electronics to education will be influenced. Supply chains in every market throughout the globe will be reshaped. The emergence of the Internet as an electronic marketplace is unparalleled in human history but is still in its infancy. The convergence of computers, networks and wireless technologies will create both opportunities and threats.

But the reason for my stance again, is the uniqueness besides the fact that a lot of opportunities, especially in my lovely country ,are still yet to be explored and fully implemented.

What about you, whats your choice? and Why?

Nigeria’s Key to Development

Monday, June 27th, 2005

Questions can sometimes be answered with questions, so if I ask myself a question I guess I can be given the chance to answer it with a question. So I ask myself. As a Nigerian, what do I think is the key to the development of the country Nigeria? My answer was, Was I referring to the development of the developed world, like the USA? Where a lot of my fellow country mates are ready to migrate to, at the slightest given opportunity?

Yes I answered myself, but then again, what is the key? I think I should go off topic for a while. A lot of us (*Nigerians) have missed our bearings in relations to what we do really need to become a developed world. We have so much believe in just applying technologies and following patterns and trends from the developed country. We believe so much in the idea of getting technology into the system, and the tendency of leap frogging, but then again, are we really developing? I would say No, in a developed country, everything is quiet balance, in terms of technology vs infrastructure.

What we really need in Nigeria, is infrastructure. We dont need technologies, we dont need investors, they need us. Now you might be thinking what is this guy talking about? Dont be alarmed, by what i just said. Nigeria is not ready for investors. When I look back at all the developing world, like China, where investors are rushing at any slightest opportunity, I do ask myself, Why China? China does not need investors? They have closed their doors for a long time. Now that their doors are slightly open, Investors are streaming in. Why? From what I can tell China has the basic infrastructure plus the resources in terms of human power to satisfy the investor’s dreams.

Now that is really what we need. We have been deceived and misdirected by the GSM and BROADBAND INTERNET implementation in the country, and i think its time we get our bearings right. What we need is basic infrastructure in terms of stable electricity, water supply and good roads. That’s the only three things we need in Nigeria. And that’s what we should ask the government for!

What we should understand as Nigerians is that, when all this three basic amenities are there, Investors would be flocking in, we don’t have to beg them, and besides the investors, we would have the chance to implement all our great ideas that have died due to the lack of these amenities.

From my personal opinion, our leaders have not achieved anything worth writing about yet. Because we don’t have the basic infrastructure and i doubt that they are even thinking in that relation. Yet we are made to believe and think that, we are on the road to development. How can that be? From what i know, Opening a gate without a key, does not lead to legal entry, that is even applicable in the case, of which the gate opens without the key. And how long would we keep on opening the same gate without the correct key?

The key to Nigeria’s development lies around the three basic amenities, Water, Electricity and Good Road, and until we have it, we would always be looking for the right gate, because the gate would never open.

Punishing Microsoft?

XP

PC makers and distributors are holding back from buying the new alternative version of Windows XP that Europe’s competition commissioner ordered Microsoft Corp. to offer as part of the punishment in the software maker’s long antitrust battle with the European Union.
Source: CNN

One thing i dont quite understand is why everybody is fuming over microsoft’s success in the operating system market. Besides that we can’t ignore to mention the numerous policies that have been passed over the past years to make sure they are punished for their success. One of the recent one, is in relation to the above quoted that was passed by EU antitrust regulators, which led to microsoft to re-produce a new version of its Windows Xp to contain european languages.

Now Microsoft went ahead to reproduce a version to meet the regulators requirement besides the fine which was a whopping record of euro497 million ($608 million). The product reproduced was the Windows XP N which was released to distributors last week in English, French, German, Italian and Spanish and will be available to the public in the next few weeks.

Now the punishment hasnt just ended. Distributors and Manufacturers are showing little interest. They said and i quote that “We’ll continue to sell the old version because it’s obviously better value for our customers,” .

Poor Microsoft. :(. Whats up with Europeans? i cant really understand why they are doing this? Is it because of open source alternatives such as Linux?

I really do not know.

Malaysians can actually withdraw from paypal

Tuesday, June 21st, 2005

Well after numerous researches here and there on the net, i have discovered an easy way for malaysians to be able to withdraw from their paypal accounts using a companies visa atms cards, by depositing in their portal and withdrawing by atm.

ATMS that accept their cards are as follows.

  • IBANK

  • CITIBANK BERHAD

  • HSBC BANK MALAYSIA BERHAD

  • MALAYAN BANKING BERHAD

  • PUBLIC BANK BERHAD

  • SOUTHERN BANK BERHAD
  • Now you might be curious to how do you do that? If you are a malaysian and you are interested in withdrawing from your paypal account, this is an opportunity.

So Malaysians Now you can withdraw from you paypal accounts at a reasonable fee!!. Good News :)

HERE IS THE LINK OF THE SITE THAT ALLOWS YOU TO WITHDRAW FROM YOUR PAYPAL ACCOUNT . CLICK HERE. and thanks for using my link because it contains my refferal link.

Thats the little i want in exchange for the link i give. My referrer id is kazey. This allows you to withdraw from your paypal account into their cards and you can withdraw from an ATM.

How do you perform a transaction with your account with this provider?

ok first of all you need to do is signup using my link of course which i would really appreciate.

then after verifying your email you would then login to your virtualbankcard account and then you click on get ATM card button.

Now you would be given information in relation to obtaining the card, which is The cost of the card is $15 for a limited time. When purchasing the card you must load a minimum of $10 on your card and the transfer fee is $3. You must have a minimum of $28 available in your account. To meet the minimum, you need to deposit $28.00 into your account.

So altogether you need only to pay them $28 dollars plus extra RM8 for the money order to them via BCB. thats if you use BCB.

But the payment also can be done with paypal, mind you that is if you have a paypal account, you can easily transfer from your paypal account to pay for the $28 initial cost. that is done by choosing the deposit by paypal after you choose to deposit for the card.

Now for the paypal also (Note: Your first deposit must be $5.00, after a 72 Hour validation period you will be able to deposit up to $500.00 every 14 days.) . There is no transaction fees for paypal currently. So is free.

Well after obtaining your visa card, you can now transfer money from your paypal account by just clicking on the deposit and choosing the appropiriate option that leads you into transferring money from your paypal account to their account.

After that, your money would be in your virtualbankcard account.

Now to withdraw is preety easy.Either you use your atm card, or you click the withdraw button, state the amount and a cheque would be sent to you based on the mailing address you state.

Once again dont forget to use my link for sharing such a useful information :).
